Rodolfo Zagert

Light and colour are the important elements in the paintings of the German - Argentinean artist who lived in Majorca from 1991 till 2004. It is not a coincidence that there are creations among his works with the title of „The temperature of the colours“.

Because the island’s light has strongly influenced his creative productions in the last years.

Rodolfo Zagert is painter and architect. Therefore we can also find in his basically abstract works every now and then some architectural elements.

On the one hand in the form of windows where you can see persons, sometimes as a figure, sometimes as a portrait in small, barely the portraiture of a certain person, but always as a symbol. „I represent in that way the human in an environment that I have imaginated myself and I can show that the environment and the human influence and complete each other.“

Sometimes he uses photographies, sometimes the person is painted directly on the canvas board.

Rodolfo Zagert: „I like to experiment with different techniques. I work with oil, achrylic and pastel. I am fascinated by the material and I am curious to see what happens when I put all in interrelation.”

Therefore his paintings have an enormous freshness and much transparency.

At the same time the contemplator is prompted to discover always something new in the different textures.

Rodolfo Zagert was born in 1950 in the province of Misiones in Argentina as son of German native Mennonitic parents.

He studied art and architecture in Buenos Aires.

He got a bursary in Bremen and lived for twenty years in Germany before he settled down in Palma with his wife Sandra.

He exhibited his works worldwide: United States – Chile – Argentina – Germany – Spain.

In 2002 the Museum of Mallorca in Palma dedicated him a solo exhibition –  very infrecuently a still living painter is exhibited here – an important recognition and privilege.

Now he is back in his native country Argentina  – he retired in order to consecrate himself exclusively to the art.

In spring 2008 he will be present  – in cooperation with the Galery HMH – at the Art Fair in Buenos Aires.
